Castrum Tetel Program II.

Lassan már 165 esztendeje, 1860 nyarán Solt város bírája (mai értelemben: polgármestere) hivatalos jelentésében rögzítette a korabeli statisztikusok és így az utókor számára, hogy „A városhoz nem messze fekvő Tétel… hegyet e század elején áskálták némely pénzre vágyó emberek.” A modern Castrum Tetel Program 2005. március 22-én egy terepszemlével kezdődött a solti Tételhegyen. Azóta tizennyolc esztendő szállt el szinte észrevétlenül: a most kézbe adott kötetben e varázslatos hely múltjának vizsgálatára szövetkezett kutatócsoport tagjaiként igyekszünk számot adni, hogy a gondolat megszületésétől a program második szakaszának zárultáig miként sáfárkodtunk elődeink szellemi és anyagi örökségével, hogyan gazdálkodtunk intézményeink pénzügyi támogatásával, és milyen eredményeket értünk el egy érettségi letételéhez elegendő időtartam alatt. Munkánkat azzal a László Gyula-i megfogalmazással és meggyőződéssel nyújtjuk át kor- és pályatársainknak, hogy ők majd jobb és alaposabb könyveket írnak a jövőben még bizonyosan sokáig folytatódó tételhegyi kutatásokról.

Some 165 years ago, in the summer of 1860, the town judge (the equivalent of a modern mayor) of the city of Solt noted in an official report drawn up for the period’s statisticians that “the Tételhegy, lying not far from the city, was at the onset of the century digged up here and there by some men desirous of riches.” The modern Castrum Tetel Project began with a visit to the Tételhegy site by Solt on March 22, 2005. Eighteen years have flown by almost imperceptibly: the present volume is a compendium of studies by the members of the research team who joined forces to investigate the past of this wondrous site in which we offer an account of whether we have been good stewards of the spiritual and material legacy of our ancestors until the termination of our research project’s second phase, how we made use of the generous financial support received from our institutions, and the results of our research during a period of time sufficient for completing, and graduating from, high school. Evoking Gyula’s László’s words, we proffer the fruits of our labour to our fellow archaeologists with the conviction that they will undoubtedly write much better and more comprehensive books in the future about the investigations on the Tételhegy site that will hopefully be continued in the future years and decades.
